Nina Turquier

Nina Turqier is French and was born in Paris. She studied history and French as a foreign language in France and then spent a year at the University of Vienna as part of the European exchange programme Erasmus. This first contact with a foreign culture led her to broaden her knowledge and share her own culture.

She has now lived in Austria for 4 years and has been teaching French for three years. She has already worked as a French language assistant in various schools. On the side, she has always given extra tuition (teenagers and adults).

She enjoys teaching and feels very comfortable with both teenagers and adults, no matter what age group they are. Because of her DELF training (a French state language diploma) she has often helped students prepare for the exams.

Why did I become a trainer/translator?

I studied history in France and then spent a year at the University of Vienna as part of the European exchange programme Erasmus. This first contact with a foreign culture led me to expand my knowledge and share my own culture. Afterwards I worked in different schools as a French language assistant. I enjoyed this work and then decided to continue my studies and obtain a master’s degree in French as a foreign language.

Il y a quelques années, j’ai effectué une année d’Erasmus à Vienne pour clôturer ma licence d’Histoire. Ce premier contact avec une culture étrangère m’a donné envie d’approfondir ma connaissance de cultures étrangères et de partager la mienne. C’est donc tout naturellement que j’ai décidé pour l’année suivante de travailler dans ce pays en tant qu’assistante de français auprès de professeurs de français autrichiens dans divers établissements du second degré. J’ai pris goût à ce travail et j’ai par la suite pris la décision de continuer mes études et de faire un master de Français Langue Etrangère.

What motivates me and drives me in my profession?

Several things motivate me, but most of all I like to impart knowledge, share a passion for a subject and bring joy to students. But what I also like is to be innovative and always find new ways to teach French so that it is never boring.

Plusieurs choses me motivent mais ce qui me plait avant tout c’est de transmettre un savoir, de partager une passion pour matière, en l’occurrence le français et d’en donner le goût aux élèves. Mais ce qui me plait également c’est d’innover et toujours trouver de nouvelles façons d’enseigner le français, afin que ça ne soit jamais redondant.

What do I prefer to teach or translate?

I like everything. In my opinion, there are no more important areas than others when learning a language. Learning grammar can be interesting if it is fun. Still, if I have to choose, I especially appreciate the civilization lessons. Thanks to my history studies I can also teach students the history of France in a competent way. I believe that for successful communication it is essential to know the culture and history of the country whose language you are learning.

Tout me plait, selon moi, il n’y a pas de domaines plus importants que d’autres dans l’apprentissage d’une langue. L’apprentissage de la grammaire peut se révéler intéressant s’il est ludique. Néanmoins, si je dois choisir, j’apprécie particulièrement les cours de civilisation. Ayant étudié l’histoire en France, j’aime beaucoup faire découvrir la culture francophone aux élèves à travers mes cours car je pense qu’il est vraiment important de connaître l’histoire et la culture d’un pays dont on apprend la langue.

I find the team very nice. Also, the lessons are flexible, there is something for all levels and tastes. Finally, the groups are small, which is important for me as a teacher, because I can respond better to each student individually and adapt to their level.

Je trouve l’équipe très sympa. De plus, les cours sont flexibles, il y en a pour tous les niveaux et tous les goûts. Enfin, les groupes sont réduits, ce qui m’est important en tant que professeur car je peux ainsi mieux m’occuper individuellement de chaque élève et m’adapter à leur niveau.
