What requirements do I need to fulfill as a course participant for a virtual course?

All you need for a virtual course is

  • a PC or laptop, a tablet or a cell phone
  • a stable Internet connection
  • a headset with a microphone (the headphones for a cell phone are perfectly sufficient)
  • an e-mail address

How much time per week should I devote to a foreign language?

It makes more sense to dedicate 20-30 minutes of your time to a foreign language every day and to constantly work on it than, for example, to study several hours a week or to repeat the entire content of the language course shortly before the next upcoming course unit.

How many course units per week are useful?

We recommend two to three course units per week of 90 minutes each.

How many hours do I need to reach a higher level?

That depends on many factors (foreign language, motivation, learning goal, learning speed, previous knowledge, type of learner, etc.). In order to achieve a stable learning progress, you should normally expect at least 60 hours á 60 minutes + self-study per level.

Which trainers are assigned to me by CL: CasaLinguae for my language course?

For our courses we only employ highly qualified, competent trainers with many years of experience. Many of them have additional training and certificates in adult education, are native speakers and experts in the foreign language.

Cancellation of a lesson

A lesson may only be cancelled free of charge on working days at the latest 24 hours before the agreed date by sending an e-mail to your trainer(s). If you cancel after this deadline, the lesson will be charged as completed.

What are the recognized language certificates and how can I obtain them?

A wide variety of certificates can be used to prove language level, but not every language certificate is universally valid. There are different language certificates, which are relevant for the respective areas. Since we know that it is difficult to get an overview, we have done this for you. HERE we present all relevant language certificates for English, German, French, Spanish, Italian & Russian.

Are there any general tips & tricks for learning?

Everybody learns differently and that’s completely ok. To help you get a better understanding of how you learn most effectively – visually, auditory, or kinesthetic (tactile) – CL: offers a learning type test. If you are interested in such a test, please feel free to contact us at info@casalinguae.at. Furthermore, you will find interesting facts about learning in our blog posts. Here you can find out, for example, how to successfully conduct international negotiations using the Harvard method, what you should consider when writing your English CV or which podcasts are helpful when learning English.

What exactly happens during a Meetup?

Meetups are regular meetings, face-to-face or virtual, where the aim is to improve your communication, take away the fear of speaking, meet new people and experience interesting topics in a foreign language.
These sessions provide a safe, comfortable and supportive environment to get you talking.

We will focus on small talk, business and personal life, news, events, weather, music, sports, etc.
These sessions will also help you master the various aspects of chatting, for example, to ensure that the conversation is a back and forth experience and to avoid uncomfortable silences. Click here for the English Meetup!

LANGUAGE COURSES – PRIVATE CUSTOMERS

What needs to be done before the course starts?

As soon as you have decided on a language and a type of course (individual, pair or group course), we will give you and us a first impression of your level of knowledge in the respective foreign language. For this purpose we offer you a written placement test and in some languages also an oral placement test. Once your current language level has been determined, you can discuss individual course contents with your trainer to cover all your needs. To help you learn effectively, we also offer a learning type test & learning style analysis. This will be sent to you via e-mail when you contact us. Through the tests we find out whether you learn more auditory, visual, or tactile. With this knowledge, your trainer will be able to tailor the learning content to your needs. Finally, course dates, times and the course location are agreed upon. And then it can start!

What do I need to participate in a virtual course?

All you need for your virtual language course, be it a one-to-one, pair or group course, is a computer and an Internet connection. The course then takes place via Skype, Webex, GoToMeeting or Zoom, for example, and does not differ in content or quality from our face-to-face courses.

How long does a course unit last?

A course unit consists of either 60, 90 or 120 minutes. Longer course units are possible for private courses by arrangement.

Can I get financial support for my language course?

Yes, an investment in your further education or in that of your employees does not only have to generate costs. However, the possibilities for course subsidies vary individually and depending on the federal state, which is why we would be happy to inform you about possible subsidies. If you have any questions about subsidies for your language courses, please contact us by e-mail (info@casalinguae.at), by telephone (0660-457 46 73 | 0669-11 77 45 48) or via our contact form. We will immediately send you all important information about a possible course sponsorship in your federal state.

Are there courses on the weekend?

Yes, if you let us know when you enquire about a course, you can also take your language course at the weekend (Saturday or Sunday).

How many participants are in a group course?

Our courses have between 5 and 8 participants. So we have small groups, which is very positive for the learning success.

I am alone, but would like to participate in a group course – what do I have to do?

You can register for a group course as an individual at any time. As soon as the minimum number of participants is reached, five people for face-to-face courses, six people for virtual courses, the course can begin. If the minimum number of participants is not reached, there is also the possibility to start, for example, with three people. We also offer pair courses for two people who already know each other and want to learn together.

Which language course is the best fit for me?

You can attend group courses, virtual courses or private lessons. You can find all languages and courses here! Of course we will be happy to advise you. Just contact us and we will find the optimal language course for you!

LANGUAGE COURSES – STRUCTURE & CONTENTS

How do I know my current language level?

To give you a first impression of your level of knowledge in the respective foreign language, you can download the written placement test in selected languages directly from our website. You can then complete the test within the given time and, of course, without the help of other resources and send it to us. You will then receive the result of your written placement test within 48 hours. In some languages, we also offer an additional oral placement test by a trainer via telephone/skype/zoom etc. – free of charge, of course.
Start your placement test right now HERE!

Do I get a certificate at the end of a course?

There is a variety of different language certificates, such as the Cambridge English Certificate or the Business English Certificate. We will prepare you in the best possible way for these exams in specially designed courses so that you can hold the certificate in your hands at the end. However, these certificates are not issued by CL: CasaLinguae, but by the respective examination office, provided that you have successfully passed the examination. At the end of your language course, you will receive a certificate of participation with your achieved language level, regardless of whether it is an individual course, group course or company course.

How is a course structured?

First of all, we want to make sure that you receive the course content in the way that best suits you. Therefore we can use an optional test to find out what type of learner you are (visual, auditory, or tactile). This knowledge accelerates the learning process and both our participants and trainers know exactly how the course and its contents should be structured. In order to cover a language completely, our courses include all important contents: Vocabulary, grammar, communication and pronunciation, reading and writing. In summary, we structure the course according to the skills you need to learn the language, but at the same time we keep your preferred learning method(s) in mind!

What are the course contents?

Course content varies depending on the language, your current language level, the course category and your individual needs & wishes. For example, you can choose from communication courses, courses specifically for business & everyday life and preparation courses (for certificates or exams). You will find a detailed course description with each of our course offerings. All planned course topics, broken down by language level, are explained in more detail. Do you have further questions? Please feel free to contact us at info@casalinguae.at or via the contact form.

Can course content be adapted to my individual needs?

Of course. There are both one-to-one and group courses, for individuals as well as for companies; no matter which you choose, the content will be individually adapted to your needs and those of the group.
If you are interested in preparing yourself for a business trip or your daily work, for example, this is of course possible.

How do I improve “intercultural communication” in my company?

The more you know about other cultures and their business etiquette, the more confident you can act and the more comfortable you feel. This is exactly where our seminar starts: The intercultural workshops are designed to focus on a specific country, do exercises and create a guide for your next private or business trip. The seminar is not about immediately changing one’s own attitude, but about becoming aware that there are differences and understanding why people in the immediate environment work and think differently than others. Therefore, the participants gain insight into other cultures and how they differ from their own. The exercises are designed in a way that the participants not only get to know the culture of the other person, but also examine their own culture and work out where friction or conflicts might arise in order to be able to avoid them in the future.

How is intercultural training structured?

Due to globalization, we are increasingly encountering international teams in companies & enterprises working together on projects, which creates new challenges. Because everyone ticks differently, and not only in a foreign culture.

The goal is to avoid generalization and to look at the following key points in order to better understand your communication partners*, no matter what culture(s) they are from, and to lead and work in an INTERNATIONAL TEAM.

  • VALUES
  • BUSINESS ETIQUETTE
  • TABOOS & MANNERS
  • COMMUNICATION PATTERNS
  • VIEW OVER TIME
  • STEREO TYPES
  • LEADERSHIP & STATUS
  • PREFERENCES OF CULTURES

What is intercultural competence?

Intercultural competence is the ability to interact successfully and appropriately with individuals and groups from other cultures. In a narrower sense, it is the ability to deal with people of different cultural orientations in a mutually satisfactory manner.

What kind of training do we offer?

The intercultural trainings can take different forms. You choose which option best suits you or your team:

  • Individual Coaching
  • Group- / Teamcoaching
  • Seminar “Introduction to Intercultural Communication
  • Country Workshops
  • Values Workshop

We tailor the training to your individual needs and can adapt it specifically to the countries, for example: “Doing business with India (/China /USA / England etc.)”.

How long does a training last?

A general Intercultural Competence Training can last 4 hours (workshop), a whole day or even longer, depending on the wishes of the customer/company.

An open Intercultural Competence Training takes 2 days.

How much does a training, workshop cost?

The costs for open intercultural training (2 days) are € 690,- per person.

For in-house training at companies: on request | depending on content

TRANSLATIONS

How long does a translation take?

When you receive your translation back depends primarily on its length. It goes without saying that a one-page letter is finished faster than a 30-page contract. But we will also deliver it to you as quickly as possible in case of a fire. We are there for you around the clock and also work night shifts to ensure that your translation is delivered on time. And if it’s very urgent, we will be happy to help you with our express translations.

What does my translation cost?

The price of a translation is calculated according to various parameters: What type of text is involved? How long is the text? What language does it need to be translated into? When should the document be ready? Is certification required? It is therefore difficult to set a flat rate in advance. Simply send us the document to be translated by e-mail and you will receive a quote by return.

What languages do you translate into?

We translate into the 20+ languages that can be found on our website. Other languages on request. Our translators always translate the texts into their mother tongue. In this way, idioms, special expressions or cultural peculiarities can also be taken into account accordingly. And to avoid mistakes, we have the finished documents proofread according to the principle of dual control.

What is a certified translation and when do I need it?

When documents are translated for submission to an agency or governmental body, certification is usually required. This certifies the accuracy of the translation. In order to produce certified translations, translators licensed for the respective country are required. The requirements are different for almost every country. We advise you on the certification of your translations and prepare certified translations.

Can I also come to you with a technical translation?
We have a large network of translators. They are experts in a wide range of fields such as law, medicine or economics and speak even the most unusual languages. Certificates, official letters, certified translations, letters from nice vacation acquaintances – just ask us, we make (almost) everything possible.
